Dogs

Standard

The dog is a very amazing creature, not as amazing as the cat but still pretty awesome. These animals are capable of so much and are actually quite incredible.

Scientific research shows that the dog is not a descendant of the grey wold like it was believed to be but were originally domesticated from a now extinct wolf population that was more genetically diverse than today’s wolf population. The dog’s genetic closeness to modern wolves is due to admixture.

Tea

Standard

There are many medicinal benefits to drinking tea, from curing stomach aches to helping with stress and anxiety. These wet leaves each hold little miracles.

Tea plants are native to East and South Asia, and probably originated around the meeting points of the lands of north drinking-tea-keeps-you-youngBurma and southwest China. Tea drinking likely began during the Shang Dynasty in China, when it was used for medicinal purposes. In India, it has been drunk for medicinal purposes for a long but uncertain period, but apart from the Himalayan region seems not to have been used as a beverage until the British introduced Chinese tea there.

Different kinds of tea and mixtures of different teas are used worldwide for different things.

green-teaGreen tea:

Made with steamed tea leaves, it has a high concentration of EGCG and has been widely studied. Green tea’s antioxidants may interfere with the growth of bladder, breast, lung, stomach, pancreatic, and colorectal cancers; prevent clogging of the arteries, burn fat, counteract oxidative stress on the brain, reduce risk of neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, reduce risk of stroke, and improve cholesterol levels.

Oolong tea:

In an animal study, those given antioxidants from oolong tea were found to have lower bad cholesterol levels. One variety of oolong, Wuyi, is heavily marketed as a weight loss supplement, but science hasn’t backed the claims.teatea

Chamomile tea:

Its antioxidants may help prevent complications from diabetes, like loss of vision and nerve and kidney damage, and stunt the growth of cancer cells.

BlackTeaBlack tea:

Made with fermented tea leaves, black tea has the highest caffeine content and forms the basis for flavored teas like chai, along with some instant teas. Studies have shown that black tea may protect lungs from damage caused by exposure to cigarette smoke. It also may reduce the risk of stroke.

Hibiscus:

A small study found that drinking three cups of hibiscus tea daily lowered blood pressure in people with modestly elevated levels

Rooibos (red tea):

A South African herb that is fermented. Although it has flavonoids with cancer-fighting properties, medical studies haveWhite-tea-health-benefits been limited.

White tea:

Uncured and unfermented. One study showed that white tea has the most potent anticancer properties compared to more processed teas.

Pu-erh tea:

Made from fermented and aged leaves. Considered a black tea, its leaves are pressed into cakes. One animal study showed that animals given pu-erh had less weight gain and reduced LDL cholesterol.

Echinacea-TeaEchinacea:

Often touted as a way to fight the common cold, the research on echinacea has been inconclusive.

Get Your Bullshit Out Of Here: Anti-Vaxxers

Standard

Anti-Vaccination-Envelope31      Lately there have been many outbreaks of viruses and diseases that have made many people sick postcard (1)and killed a few too. Some of these illnesses have been proven to be preventable by just getting a shot of two but there are many people out there that have given into the vaccine conspiracy and a lot of those people are parents refusing to vaccinate their children.

The anti-vaccination movement, a.k.a anti-vaxxers, is the irrational mistrust of vaccines and vaccinations. This movement
blames vaccines for a countless amount of maladies. Vaccine-preventable diseases have been a major cause of illness, death, and disability throughout human history. Most Americans and Europeans have very little memory of a pre-vaccine era where viruses like mumps, measles, smallpox and polio were common and often very deadly. In recent times there has been a lot of debate about the possible side effect and if the out weigh the risks of leaving the population un-protects from viruses.

I200px-Vaccine_bullshitn the year 2000 measles was practically eliminated from the U.S., with fewer than 100 cases per year, but in the last year there has been more than 644 reported cases making it the worst outbreak of measles in 20 years. We have also just recently had the biggest whooping cough outbreak in 70 years.

There are lots of people concerned with what they are exactly putting into their bodies which is understandable but at what point does it become ridiculous and dangerous?

Landerig_03

This belief is unlikely to dissipate anytime soon, despite the evidence exemplifying the safety of vaccines. It has several important factors that make it a very durable belief:

  1. It involves harm to children.
  2. It involves science that most people do not understand.
  3. It involves using a painful method (a needle) to inject a foreign substance into our bodies. Some of them even have
  4. remnants of inactive viruses!
  5. It is frightening.
  6. It seems on its face to “make sense,” bigfatwhale_530_mainespecially to make sense of an otherwise unexplainable tragedy.

561286_493297960740218_790434548_nPersonally i think that this whole conspiracy around vaccines is absolutely ridiculous and not only does it put your life in danger it also put everyone else’s life in danger. It is extremely selfish for you not to vaccinate children and yourself.

Malaria

Standard

Malaria has been called “the deadliest disease in history.” It effects Millions of people per year and more than half of the world has the potential of getting infected. 91% will be in the African region.  Every minute a child dies from Malaria.

Malaria is spread through mosquito’s onto humans and animals. Most commonly the disease is spread by an infected female mosquito. The mosquito bite introduces the parasites from the mosquito’s saliva into a person’s blood. The parasites then travel to the liver where they mature and reproduce.

Within 8-25 days of being infected with Malaria you will begin to show symptoms very similar to the flu. These symptoms include: headache, fever, shivering, joint pain, vomiting, hemolytic anemia, jaundice, hemoglobin in the urine, retinal damage, and convulsions. If you are the unfortunate fella’ who gets cerebral malaria you will have neurological symptoms, including abnormal posturing, nystagmus, conjugate gaze palsy (failure of the eyes to turn together in the same direction), opisthotonus, seizures, or coma.

In 2010 an estimated 219 million cases of malaria occurred worldwide and 660,000 people died, most (91%) in the African Region. In 2011 malaria cases reached a 40-year high of 1,925.

Although Malaria is a very transmittable disease and is very deadly if diagnosed and treated early enough prevents death and contributed to the reducing of the disease as a whole.

Preventing the spread of malaria is actually quite easy to prevent even though there is no vaccine. With mosquito nets set up around your bed and using mosquito repellant you could easily diminish the spread of the disease. Although these things seem easy enough to get in the united states, malaria is spread in some of the poorest regions in the world and unless these things are donated.

Malaria has been around for hundreds of thousands of years and just recently do we have the technology and the means of preventing and possibly eradicating this disease.

This disease literally just breaks my heart because it is happening to people literally helpless from a disease we arent even bothered from. Children and pregnant woman have a higher risk of contracting this disease and over 430,000 children have died before their fifth birthdays
